Numerous Berliners and guests traditionally celebrate the New Year at the Brandenburg Gate. This year, there will once again be a big fireworks display and a party.
For years, the New Year's Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate was considered one of the biggest parties in the world to ring in the new year. A special highlight every year is the spectacular fireworks display at midnight. For over ten years, ZDF broadcast the New Year's Eve show "Willkommen 20xx" (Welcome 20xx) from the Brandenburg Gate. This year, however, the celebrations will take place under a new concept. In addition to the traditional fireworks display, there will be a DJ party for 20,000 people and a large demonstration.
On New Year's Eve, Platz des 18. März is transformed into Berlin's largest dance floor: around 20,000 people can dance in the New Year. Right on time at midnight, the popular fireworks display will start above the iconic Quadriga. The seven-and-a-half-minute fireworks display will be broadcast on television on ARD. Admission is free, but those interested must secure tickets. These will be available from 15 December. Details of the line-up are not yet known.
The event site can be accessed via three entrances: Ebertstraße Süd at Behrenstraße, Ebertstraße Nord at Dorotheenstraße, and Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße at the corner of Scheidemannstraße. Visitors who wish to enter the grounds after 10 p.m. should use the Ebertstraße Nord or Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße entrance. Bag checks will be carried out. Visitors are not permitted to bring their own food or alcoholic beverages.
For security reasons, identity checks will again be carried out at the entrance this year. Fireworks of any kind are strictly prohibited. All sharp and pointed objects, as well as objects that could be used as weapons, are also prohibited from being brought onto the event grounds. The same applies to large rucksacks and bags, glass containers and cans, as well as chairs, barbecues, drones, selfie sticks and laser pointers.
