The Berlin Senate wants to campaign for the protection of sexual identity in the constitution with a Bundesrat initiative. The members of the Senate passed a resolution to this effect at their most recent meeting.

The first sentence of paragraph 3 of Article 3 is to be expanded to include the addition of “sexual identity”, as Social Affairs Senator Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) explained. It currently reads: “No one may be disadvantaged or favored because of their gender, origin, race, language, homeland and origin, faith, religious or political views.”

In their “government policy guidelines”, the CDU and SPD had agreed to campaign for the amendment of the standard at federal level. The Bundesrat initiative is to be introduced before the summer break, probably on July 11, said Kiziltepe. “The Governor and I stand by Berlin as the rainbow capital,” said the Senator for Social Affairs, who is also responsible for the topic of anti-discrimination. The initiative is a clear signal against discrimination.
